2026 Pensacola Magazine Pet Cover Contest Winner
Mooshi is proof that the biggest hearts sometimes come in the smallest packages. At just three months old, she was found in poor condition after being abandoned in a home full of neglected animals. In urgent need of medical foster care, she arrived in our lives when she needed help the most. After only a few hours with her, we knew she was meant to be part of our family.
Since then, Mooshi has done nothing but exceed expectations. She has grown into a healthy, happy and incredibly fluffy two-year-old who shows us every day that resilience and love can work wonders. She’s an adventurous traveler who has joined us on several trips. No matter where she goes, she charms everyone she meets with her sweet personality and endlessly soft fluffs.
When not out and about you can almost always find her in her favorite window hammock watching the birds and soaking up the sun. Mooshi makes the puur-fect Pensacola pet because she’s evidence of what can happen when the Pensacola Humane Society and community come together to provide the care these animals desperately need.

How did you and Mooshi come into each other’s lives?
Mooshi came into our care after we were informed that medical fosters were needed for a large rescue of 50+ cats and dogs at a single residence. With both HOPE Animal Rescue and Pensacola Humane Society involved, lots of volunteers and fosters were needed. As soon as we got the call we knew we had to help in any way we could, and the moment we saw this sweet girl we knew she was ours.
What inspired Mooshi’s name?
We named her Mooshi because her face is smooshy/squishy.
What are some of your and Mooshi’s favorite Pensacola spots? Any special memories?
Mooshi honestly loves to just be with us, but she definitely gets really excited when she sees a Starbucks drive thru. She’s a pup cup queen and will hop right up front to greet her favorite baristas.
Can you tell us a little more about the photo you submitted?
This was from our first family outing downtown after the Palafox street construction was complete. We had a nice walk after stopping off at the farmers market and Fosko for coffee.
How has Mooshi become an important part of your family?
Mooshi provides the harmony in our little animal kingdom. With two other sisters (both with their own very unique and different personalities) Mooshi loves everyone and everything. Meaning she adds zero drama to the mix.
